Ian qualified with an Honours degree from Newcastle University in 1998. In 2001, Ian was awarded the MFGDP qualification and this was followed by the Diploma in Conscious Sedation in 2002 from Newcastle University. Ian has developed an interest in implant and reconstructive dentistry and has been very active in postgraduate education in this field since attending a Nobel Biocare Implant Introduction in 2002. Ian has been a partner at Queensway since 2006 and is responsible for ensuring high standards of dental care are provided for all NHS and private patients. Ian has also been involved in some university research projects in implant care and conscious sedation.
Ian has shown continued commitment to further education with his three year MSc implant programme at Warwick University, where he was awarded “best implant student in 2008”. Ian is keen to provide whole patient care where dentistry is delivered in a conservative and minimally invasive manner. This MSc qualification resulted in Ian being awarded regional tutor status for the Warwick University Implant Msc programme and GIFT Implant training from 2011 to 2013. In the last 4 years Ian has attended a one year restorative and aesthetic course with Paul Tipton in Manchester, a surgical implant and bone grafting course at Paris Medical School and an Advanced All-on-4™ guided surgery residency with Paulo Malo in Lisbon, Portugal. Ian has also attended various scientific meetings in London, Manchester and in Gothenburg, Sweden.
Ian also provides small group teaching to dentists as part of Nobel Biocare’s training programme and is a regional mentor for SmileTube TV – the ultimate year in implant dentistry.
Ian is a partner at Queensway Dental Laboratory. Working in partnership with Richard Elliott over the last 3 years, Ian has assisted in bringing the latest products and services for implant dentistry into a new and exciting full service private implant laboratory. The laboratory now has a team of twelve and provides bespoke implant and restorative cases for dentists at Queensway and around the North East region. Queensway Laboratory benefits from Nobel Biocare’s, Procera 3D scanning and planning technology.
Ian is very proud of the comprehensive team approach that is available at Queensway Dental Clinic, which combines the experience of many dental professionals in all fields of dentistry along with some highly skilled and experienced laboratory technicians to deliver the right treatment for each patient attending the service.
The most recent phase of Ian’s academic and professional development began in April 2012 and involved visiting Seattle, USA to study with one of America’s most eminent dentists, Dr John Kois. This eight module programme follows some clear protocols for managing complexity in dental care and will allow Ian to carefully manage some of the most challenging reconstruction of patients’ dental health. Ian successfully graduated from the Kois programme in November 2014.
