Implant and abutment level restorations. Is there a difference in crestal bone stability?
When an implant is placed subcrestally, we have a unique situation due to the presence of the bone above the implant neck.
The changes to that bone are called ‘bone remodeling’, which differs from ‘bone loss’, usually involving bone changes below the implant neck. It might be suggested that moving the restorative steps from the implant level to the abutment helps in reducing abutment disconnection and decreases remodeling of bone.
