The Mouth-Body-Connection: How Oral Fluid Diagnostics will Impact the Management of Periodontal Disease
This course will provide a comprehensive review of periodontal disease including current concepts regarding pathogenesis and diagnosis and will focus on the analysis of oral fluids (saliva, gingival fluid) for patient management. The discussion will review both current evaluation of periodontal disease and the emergence of the analysis of oral fluid as a key element in diagnosis and disease management.
Attendees will learn about the application of oral fluid diagnostics for periodontal disease in the context of the interaction between periodontitis and chronic diseases. The webinar will review the application of inflammatory biomarkers to assess oral health, presenting evidence for the use of an assay that measures matrix metalloproteinase 8 (MMP-8) in both gingival crevicular fluid and saliva. The course will conclude with discussion of the practical application of this new approach to periodontal diagnosis in general and specialty dental practice.
