The edentulous esthetic risk assessment (EERA)
This presentation will describe how a checklist can aid the clinician in diagnosing and treatment planning the edentulous patients for various osseointegrated implant options.
Osseointegrated implants were first introduced for treating the edentulous mandible nearly 50 years ago. Since then, the development of new implant designs, surfaces, and restorative materials has led to the introduction of other implant-related modalities, such as single tooth replacement, fixed partial dentures, removable dentures, and a myriad of other implant-retained or implant-supported options. The rehabilitation of the edentulous arches is a very prominent option for our patients and can improve the quality of life when properly executed.
Learning objectives:
- Describe implant supported treatment options for the fully edentulous patient.
- Discuss how the classic complete denture guidelines can aid in treatment selection.
- Discuss how misdiagnosis can create treatment complications and/or failure.
