- Review the pathogenesis of periodontal disease as an inflammatory process that has systemic consequences relating to diabetes, cardiovascular disease and other diseases.
- Present case studies of patients with diabetes and periodontitis where HbA1C levels were significantly reduced as a direct result of nonsurgical periodontal therapy.
- Demonstrate oral diseases/conditions related to diabetes.
- Implement strategies for Diabetes Educators and Dental Professionals to assess risk factors and participate in the screening patients for both periodontal disease and diabetes to reduce the recently published epidemic number of cases in the U.S.
Participants will learn:
- Recognize Periodontal Disease as an Inflammatory Disease.

- State oral conditions related to diabetes
- Provide patient education relating to oral care for patients with diabetes
