OSHA Compliance in the Dental Setting Part 1
A Review of the Bloodborne Pathogens Standard
This webinar will first describe the history of the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and the genesis of the current OSHA Bloodborne Pathogens Standard. After this, key knowledge required under this Standard will be discussed. This will include a review of relevant bloodborne pathogens in the dental setting, Hepatitis B inoculation and post-exposure prophylaxis. This will be followed by a review of information on personal protective equipment against the background of OSHA requirements, risk reduction, and engineering and work controls.
Participants will learn:
- Describe the process for understanding and receiving Hepatitis B inoculation.
- Review requirements in handling a known or potential exposure.
- List the personal protective equipment required to meet the Bloodborne Pathogens Standard.
- Review engineering and work controls used in situations that post a risk for exposure to bloodborne pathogens.
