Oral Care for Older Patients: Section 1: Health and Medical Considerations
This course will cover the health conditions pertinent to older populations and oral implications.
The link between periodontitis and various systemic diseases will be discussed as well as the impact oral health plays in the overall quality of life through out a patient’s lifespan. Oral diseases prevention strategies for older adults will also be covered.
Participants will learn:
- Established and emerging relationships between oral health and systemic conditions
- The role oral inflammation plays in non communicable diseases
- How oral health influences many aspects of an aging patient’s general health and quality of life Pathways for care of older adults
- How preventive strategies implementation can be used to stop the initiation of disease, reduce adverse health risk and improve patient’s overall well-being
