Early detection of caries lesions with X-ray free near-infrared transillumination and appropriate treatment
Nevertheless, the visual diagnosis has weaknesses, especially in the approximal area. Therefore additional aids are required, such as bitewings, which have become the gold standard in this field. For a couple of years the near-infrared transillumination represents a new method for a reliable and X-ray free caries detection.
As part of a Webinar on 05/13/2015 Dr. Jan Kühnisch will report on the potential of the method, his own research results and previous clinical experiences with near-infrared transillumination. Furthermore the method will be compared to established techniques and typical treatment strategies for different caries stages will be described.
Following topics will e discussed:
- Caries diagnosis issues
- Visual diagnosis
- Near-infrared diagnosis
- Bitewing radiographs
- Practical considerations
Learning objectives:
Learn about the diagnostic value of various caries diagnosis systems, their indication range and conclusions for the treatment.
