A new SPLIT CREST technique
A reduced crestal bone volume is frequently encountered in implantology, with horizontal bone defects being certainly the most common occurrence. The introduction of PiezoImplants has considerably simplified the implant therapy of thin crestal bone, because the rectangular section of the new implants’ wedge shape is a better fit for the crestal anatomy.
A reduced crestal bone volume is frequently encountered in implantology, with horizontal bone defects being certainly the most common occurrence. The introduction of PiezoImplants has considerably simplified the implant therapy of thin crestal bone, because the rectangular section of the new implants’ wedge shape is a better fit for the crestal anatomy. This innovation allows to limit the use of bone grafts and GBR, which are characterized by greater post-operative morbidity.
Among bone volume augmentation techniques, ridge splitting is more advantageous because, by creating an intraosseous defect, it has a more favorable healing. In addition, the association of REX implants with the Split Crest technique greatly simplifies the surgical procedure. Based on this experience, a new implant site preparation technique for expansion was developed, which employs new rexpander® bone expanders. Unlike the conventional drilling technique, the use of the rexpanders® does not remove any bone tissue and thus allows to simplify implant placement even in the most severe horizontal defects.
