In 45 years of practicing dental hygiene my patients have done MUCH better with electronic toothbrushes. I also like interdental brushes. After I convert them to electronic toothbrushes, the patients love them and have much better home care.

Do you find using a combination of initial ultrasonic scaling for generalized periodontal therapy followed the by erbium laser at future appointments for treating persistent periodontal pockets effective? This opposed to using erbium laser for initial periodontal therapy due to patient discomfort?

Why do you not do oral hygiene instruction with the patient at the start of the appointment, when you have disclosed the plaque and the patient is still alert/paying attention. I find OHI early in the session as opposed to the end is more effective.

I just saw a patient who had not had a cleaning ever. I don’t believe that any ultrasonic cleaning could have been done without anesthesia. The bleeding was very heavy and high pain due to the amount of inflammation. Why do you say no anesthesia needed?
