  1. Understand the reasons behind the release of the Guideline for Infection Control in Dental Health Care Settings
  2. Recognize the importance of an Infection Prevention Protocol.
  3. Appreciate the importance of physical barriers such as a high-filtration mask.
  4. Able to differentiate the different patient-care items and their different levels of sterilization.
  5. How to manage disposable or used laser parts and collected biological waste properly.

Frank Y. W. Yung

Dr. Frank Y. W. Yung graduated with Honours from the Faculty of Dentistry at the University of Toronto, Ontario, Canada in 1980. He was accepted as a member of the Omicron Kappa Upsilon Honour Dental Society in the same year. He graduated with Honours again from the RWTH Aachen University, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany for the degree of Master of Science Lasers in Dentistry in 2011. From the Academy of Laser Dentistry: He achieved Standard and Advanced Proficiency in the use of the diode laser (980 nm) in 2001 and 2003 respectively. In 2004, he achieved Advanced Proficiency in the use of the Er: YAG laser (2940 nm).

He was awarded the Educator Certificate in 2005, and in 2007 he was the recipient of the prestigious Leon Goldman Award for Clinical Excellence. He was the Chairman of the Certification Committee from 2008 to 2010. He is a fellow of the American Society for Laser in Medicine and Surgery and maintains membership in the Society for Oral Laser Applications and the American Dental Education Association. He is a part-time staff member in Clinical Dentistry, Department of Oral Medicine, Faculty of Dentistry, University of Toronto. He is one of the founding members of the Canadian Dental Relief International: an all volunteer, self-funded organization dedicated to helping the underprivileged through the practice of dentistry.

Robert H. Gregg II DDS

Dr. Robert Gregg is a former faculty member at the UCLA School of Dentistry. He has been using lasers clinically since August 1990, including CO2, free-running pulsed (FRP) Nd: YAG, both single and variable pulsed; FRP Ho: YAG, surgical Argon, CW diodes and Er: YAG. He has given lectures both nationally and internationally on the subject of clinical laser applications, and has conducted seminars for the UCLA Department of Continuing Education. In addition to authoring several peer-reviewed articles on the clinical applications of FRP Nd:YAG for endodontic and periodontal uses, he is an author of the Curriculum Guidelines and Standards for Dental Laser Education. Dr. Gregg has obtained his Mastership and Educator’s Certification in the Academy of Laser Dentistry. He has been appointed as a peer-review member of the Dentistry Today CE Editorial Board. He is a co-developer of the FDA-cleared PerioLase® MVP-7™ pulsed Nd:YAG laser, and is a founder of Millennium Dental Technologies, Inc. Dr. Gregg is also a co-developer and patent holder of the LANAP® laser periodontitis treatment. He maintains a private practice where he sees patients.
