How to Manage Deficient Ridges

This is a four-part course presented by Dr. Michael Pikos.

The first part is a live surgical demonstration that will cover procedures for rehabilitating implant patients with poor quality bone, limited bone availability, and complicated cases utilizing the most current techniques used in implant dentistry today to provide for long-term success.

The second part, on hard tissue grafting techniques, will cover comprehensive biomechanical principles that dictate bone grafting surgical protocols; the necessary steps to successfully place implants into patients with compromised hard and soft tissue anatomy; the biology of mandibular block grafts and sinus grafts; mandibular block grafts for horizontal and vertical alveolar ridge augmentation in the anterior and posterior maxilla and mandible; and recipient site development and staging of mandibular block grafts, sinus grafts and implant placement.

The third part will cover soft tissue grafting techniques, including alloderm, CTG and FGG.

In the fourth part of the course, common complications and solutions will be reviewed, including how to avoid complications in he first place; what we can learn from errors; how they can be fixed; and pink porcelain.

Dr.Michael Pikos

Dr. Michael A. Pikos is originally from Campbell, Ohio. He attended Ohio State University where he graduated Summa Cum Laude and Phi Beta Kappa. He also graduated with honors from the Ohio State University College of Dentistry. Dr. Pikos completed residency training in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery at the University of Pittsburgh, Montefiore Hospital.He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Diplomate of the American Board of Oral Implantology/Implant Dentistry, Diplomate of The International Congress of Oral Implantologists and Diplomate of the American Society of Osseointegration. He is an Adjunct Assistant Professor, Department of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery at the following institutions: The University of Miami, School of Medicine, the Ohio State University, College of Dentistry, and Nova Southeastern University, College of Dental Medicine. He is also a Courtesy Clinical Associate Professor, Department of Periodontology, at the University of Florida, College of Dentistry. Dr. Pikos is a member of the Academy of Osseointegration and Associate Fellow of the American Academy of Implant Dentistry.

Dr. Pikos has extensive experience in implant surgery having placed more than 7,000 implants. He performs numerous hard and soft tissue graft procedures and emphasizes principles of prosthetics and biomechanics that dictate the ultimate success of implants. He is a well published author who has lectured extensively on dental implants both nationally and internationally. Dr. Pikos is also the founder of the MAP Implant Institute a Dental Implant Institute of Las Vegas continuing education partner.
