The dental rehabilitation in the esthetic zone is often clinically challenging. The goal of esthetic implant therapy is to provide a predictable and esthetically and functionally satisfying treatment outcome with a low risk of esthetic complications.

It is desirable to achieve this goal with a minimum trauma and number of surgical procedures and in the shortest possible treatment time from tooth extraction to implant restorations.

The aim of this presentation is to introduce a surgical decision making to help the clinician in the selection of the most adequate surgical technique in the implant treatment of esthetic areas in order to reach the objectives described above.  Each surgical decision is presented with a case report. In addition, the biologic rationale is discussed.

Learning objectives:

  • Identify different clinical situations in esthetic areas;
  • Advantages and disadvantages of each surgical technique in anterior areas;
  • Indications for the different available surgical techniques when applied to esthetic cases.
