In this course, Dr. L. Stephen Buchanan will discuss the relationship between the specialist and the generalist in using root canal therapy to treat patients.

He will cover techniques for length determination, plus the safe, efficient use of nickel-titanium files and their advantages (as well as their pitfalls).
Other topics to be covered include the following:
Crown-down" shaping techniques.
The use of standard K-files for apical gauging.
Techniques for cone-fitting.
Proper selection of gutta-percha and paper points.
Re-treatment, including techniques for removal of gutta-percha and carriers.
Dr. Buchanan is recognized as a leading expert in endodontics. He is a diplomate of the American Board of Endodontics, and he is a fellow of the International and American Colleges of Dentistry. Dr. Buchanan's continuing education company is Dental Education Laboratories, through which he regularly teaches limited-attendance, hands-on courses in Santa Barbara, Calif. He also presents one-day participation programs at locations across the United States. Dr. Buchanan lectures extensively to domestic and international audiences. He serves as adjunct clinical professor at the University of Pacific School of Dentistry and at the University of Southern California School of Dentistry. Dr. Buchanan lives in Santa Barbara, where he continues to develop his unique, system-based approach to root canal therapy. He maintains a private practice limited to endodontics.
