Cone Beam Computed Tomography offers a whole new paradigm to dental radiography. From what has been conventional 2D images, dentists now have the ability to look at the maxillo-facial region in any direction, any thickness as well as in 3D. With the introduction of Cone Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT) the specialist and general dentist alike can now afford to own and enjoy the benefits of this fantastic diagnostic tool. We will discuss the basics of CBCT, FOV (field of view), focal spot, Flat panel types, processing time, gray scale and how these affect resolution and image quality. We will discuss PreXion 3D high resolution images and spend time with real scans showing how these images can be used in Periodontal treatment planning, Implant planning, Oral surgery planning, Complex Endodontic planning and diagnosis and treatment planning for the general dentist.

Objectives: At the end of the lecture, the participant should be familiar with:

- the differences between currently available CBCT scanning system
- the differences between larger and smaller Fields of View and their resolution
- the diagnostic value for General Dental needs, Periodontology, Oral Surgery, Implantology, and Endodontic treatments
- providing an interactive learning experience that allows the participant to get familiar with CBCT technology and the unlimited possibilities of software manipulation to provide the best diagnostic value to the patient and confidence for the surgeon or dentist.
